Still, for it to become a "popular" platform, I think #mediagoblin will need a youtubeish skin called #gnutube - very much like qvitter is to gnu social. Decouple even more federation/core aspects from interface/appearance: we've seen it working reasonably well around here.

aroqueNot surprised at all: "I’ve been a software engineer for decades, and I recognize artificially manufactured limitations when I see them. Look, I get it. Apple sells hardware, and it’s good business sense to artificially choke off older equipment to induce people to buy new devices. But when you pair this behavior with environmental messages, it sends mixed signals. It tells us that the environmental push isn’t as sincere as it’s being held out to be." http://sporadicdispatches.blogspot.fr/2016/03/an-open-letter-to-tim-cook-apple-and.html

aroqueOn top of the ones you mention, another reason why I prefer +5y laptops is that they most likely have a sane keyboard with separate up/down keys - there again I suspect it was Apple's fault (but I am not sure)
@nicolasmaia and of course a >5y old laptop is a piece of your life: it has travelled with you, lost keys on the way and swallowed your coffee and tea. This subculture of "ever brand new" stuff that "just works" is just disgusting.
