some people fundamentally misunderstand how the fediverse works. all you can do is filter what comes in.
there is nothing that can be done about somebody who is morally reprehensible downloading, installing and using the software to post their vitriol. but, you can block those users and their instances.
at the end of the day, that's just how the network is architected.- Bob Mottram 🔧 ☕ ✅ likes this.

yes, there are some shitty Pleroma instances. I don't particularly like that they exist. but they operate their instances in accordance with the AGPL license.
there are also shitty people who run every other software. the authors of those software also probably do not like that situation, but again, they follow the license.
as access to fediverse node hosting becomes more democratized, marginalized people will have more control over their own space. the entire goal behind Pleroma is to enable this.
but there is no technical solution here, other than filtering what comes in. if you don't like what is coming into your space from outside, you can write a config or click some buttons or whatever, and it's gone.
yes it's shitty that somebody has to do this type of work to keep out bad actors, but it's how the network is architected. it's literally like email. -

@kaniini
there are more ways to have an impact on what comes in even so it doesn't gives you the controlfor example:
- challenging nazis where ever they are (keeping in mind of not being an amplyfier for their messages and the #backfire effect)
- clear language when advertising a plattform (that nazis are getting disturbed just from reading what it is)also:
It's not nessasary strategicial clever to cut them off from reading your posts that might deconstruct ideas of nationalismkaniini likes this. -

@kaniini Keeping out bad actors is really a community responsibility. In the silo systems a few people make those decisions, but always with their own profitability in mind. As you can see on Birdsite some bad actors are retained because their activity creates engagement and hence profit from ads. But we don't have to do that here. Every time an instance blocks bad actors that helps to clean up the federated timeline for others.
