@hattiecat many people who use free software almost exclusively will make exceptions for drivers, in part because it's especially inconvenient and because it involves actually spending money on new hardware. This is a good example to counter that (bad) argument and show why drivers are not only a threat to freedom and privacy, but can be more so than normal userspace software.
But framing the argument properly is important. The counter-argument that this can still happen in free software is applying the open source philosophy.
