@fla @paulfree14 Addendum: I was there at #Diaspora between 2012 / 2013 and 2016. Most time with the same topics as here also, with the difference that I host now #GNUsocial on my own. Most time topics and discussions about politics, society and an antithesis. But with this combination it's already a pity to discover that there are enough borders and when questioning some "major lovely toys" for example - talking about #Google or #YouTube - you'll get the corresponding feedback and people show up that they really don't care about protection. It's all about a masquerade and people invest more time posting some "cat-pictures" or proprietary links instead being part of the community. So far to my time at #Diaspora and last but not least when trying to standup against open said racism or antisemitism there are enough participants of the so-called community having problems doing that.
I have no doubt that there is some kind of community, but not for everyone and that's the point. Would I recommend #Diaspora to others? No, because of the given reasons above when searching for deep talks and discussions for a change. Yes, when searching for just another place playing with the own digital self-image. -

@fla @paulfree14 Thanks for the link to the guidelines. Have you some date when those were published initially? I can remember my time at #Diaspora being two years back then and there were enough very harsh discussions. Real antisemitism, racism and much more on pods like diasporabr.com.br for example! Furthermore there are enough profiles even today with transphobic and homophobic content.
From my point of view there has to be consequences: The freedom of speech is not limited, but has also borders. With my freedom I have NO further further right limitating the freedom and dignity of others! But that's the point: Enough profiles do this even today under the circumstance of "freedom of speech" and cry out loud "censorship" when somebody has words and reasonable arguments against that. People are really left alone when wanting to argument against racism and antisemitism, so #Diaspora is in NO WAY far more better or worse than #Facebook for example. "Be excellent to each other" is not enough and the given bullet points are also not enough to get a colorful community. It's just about having some time with the own profile to deal with for users when I had a look last time, the digital self-image is much more relevant than any kind of reasonable and good, deep discussion! -

For now, I am building out a simple set of experiments. Initially, I needed a convenient way to monitor project feeds from different places, so I've used the Channel Sources feature to create syndicated bot channels for the federated projects I want to watch.
This requires some adjustment and fine-tuning, but you can subscribe to it through Diaspora, Friendica, GNU Social, Mastodon, Socialhome, Hubzilla, or anywhere that can use #OStatus, #ActivityPub, #Diaspora Protocol, or #Zot. -

@paulfree14 Absolutely, but the major problem is the already missing "netiquette" or better called "community-ruleset". The only thing #Diaspora used to be was "Be excellent to each other!". That's not enough and the platform itself is not a neutral piece of software as the community wants to be viewed. -

the best what ppl can use #instagram for is raising awarness about what #facebook is doing and what alternatives there are...etc.I've seen once a mastodon instance that was designed to better suit to image posting. but can't remember it's name.

Mit einem tiefen Seufzer: Nein, föderierte, dezentrale Netzwerke werden eben nicht "Heilsbringer" spielen - auch wenn sich das nunmehr so Mancher im Angesicht des "Netzwerkdurchsetzungsgesetzes" zu wünschen scheint. Der Grund ist doch sehr simpel: Diese kleine aber feine Kultur hier ist ebenso zerbrechlich wie fragil und schwindend. Und schon die kleinste Unwegsamkeit in Form von einem übermäßigen Schwall von #Rassismus wie auch weiteren #Vorurteilen wird das hier ebenso wie #Diaspora auch komplett aus den Fugen heben.
Genau dann nämlich wenn die Administratoren durchgreifen und gemäß der eigenen Netiquette Konten sperren, sofern Uneinsichtigkeit besteht. Und genau diese Uneinsichtigkeit wird mit absoluter Sicherheit bestehen, da wir Menschen vorzugsweise trotzig reagieren. Dann heißt es auch hier: Zensur, Zensur, Zensur. Was haben wir dann dadurch gewonnen? Nicht viel, außer die gleichen Paradigmen in abgewandelter Form.
Die Alternative? Pragmatische Gleichgültigkeit und weitere Einschränkung der eigenen "Filter- und Informationsblase", wenn sich die Netzwerke weiterhin als neutrales Stück "Technik" betrachten. Dann wird verbissen sprichwörtlich gekämpft um die Meinungs- und Deutungshoheit. Lasst bitte den Blödsinn nun den Leuten sprichwörtliche Emanzipation vorzuschlagen. Sie werden allesamt nur die gesammelten Probleme von #Twitter und #Facebook hierher tragen, ohne auch nur den Hauch eines Wechsels. Ein Jeder MUSS seinen eigenen Weg finden! #Eigene-Meinung #Falscher-Aktivismus -
