    @craigmaloney #StatusNet was not only released under the #GPL, but the #AGPL (Affero GPL). The AGPL was explicitly designed to also keep remote services free as in freedom. The GPL unfortunately doesn't defend rights when it comes to webservices etc. but (if I remember the legalese correctly) AGPL has the language of "conveying" instead of "distributing" etc.

    @colegota Realmente eso que apuntas no es consustancial al capitalismo, pero entiendo que te refieres al carácter autoritario de las licencias en cuestión. Lo cierto es que definir bajo qué circunstancias o condiciones se puede usar una #licencia es delimitar quién puede usar o no el producto licenciado. Por ejemplo: la licencia #GPL impide que cualquiera con el deseo de apoderarse de código libre para generar software privativo lo pueda hacer, así que en ese sentido está restringiendo y limitando a las personas, corporaciones o entes que tengan esa intención. Definir circunstancias y establecer condiciones es delimitar lo que se puede hacer y lo que no ¿debemos calificar entonces a la GPL de capitalista? Creo que no. Comparto algunas de las críticas que apuntas al #copyfarleft pero veo interesante el debate que abre en el sentido de llevar al #copyleft a un nivel de beligerancia política más incisivo, porque tal y como está definido acaba beneficiando a lo mismo que pretende combatir.
