This is a photograph I submitted to #Wikipedia of #MeldonViaduct in #Devon, #England. It is a historic #structure from the #Victorian era, made of #iron (not steel) and is #ListedBuilding, on the outskirts of #Dartmoor. It was historically a #Railway #Bridge and was used to carry #Quarry material from Meldon Quary to nearby Okehampton. Nowadays it is part of a cycle route called the Granite Way and part of #NCN27.

I entered this image into the Wiki Loves Monuments #2018 competition.

Did anyone read the #wikipedia entry about #zemlinpac ('Linux' Foundation)? It like a page either copied from the LF's own Web site or composed purely by the LF's PR firms (there are several). Wikileaks still allows itself to be controlled by PR agencies, full-time salaried staff. #microsoft caught.

#wikipedia on @linuxfoundation is like #marketing material written by Foundation staff or external PR firm, e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Foundation "100% of donations received go towards funding diversity programs"

The #wikipedia article/entry about #zemlinpac is 100% commercial, corporate puff piece. It's like the PR people of the "Linux" Foundation composed it from beginning to end, then guarded it from so-called adversaries' edits with 'pesky' edits

Interesting, half of #Wikipedia's #Signpost this week is about the #Fram situation.

(the summary of the situation is that #Wikimedia Foundation, the hosters of Wikipedia, banned a long time admin with no transparency. Don't want to get too into politics, but it's a very interesting situation)

Tell HN: Social media strike proposed for July 4-5 by Wikipedia co-founder

"Humanity has been contemptuously used by vast digital empires," says my new "Declaration of Digital Independence" (https://larrysanger.org/2019/06/declaration-of-digital-indep...), which you can sign. So I'm calling a massive social media strike (https://larrysanger.org/2019/06/social-media-strike/) for July 4-5 to raise awareness of the possibility of decentralizing social media, which in my experience is wildly popular whenever proposed.

Read the FAQ (https://larrysanger.org/2019/06/faq-about-the-project-to-dec...) and use some collected resources (https://larrysanger.org/2019/06/socialmediastrike-resources/) to learn and spread the word far and wide. Look for lots of news about this soon. And get ready! Maybe we can make a long-held geek dream finally come true.

"Although it appears #Wikipedia is the #encyclopedia anyone can edit, not all editors are equal, some editors are more equal than others. #Research "measured the political composition of more than 200,000 of these #Wikipedia's editing communities, assessing to what extent the editors were split between #conservative and #liberal ideologies.

They found that when an editing community is politically #polarized, the depth and accuracy of the information significantly improves, and inversely, as #editingcommunities become ideologically homogeneous, the quality of the page dramatically declines."
