     @deadsuperhero @strypey @notclacke It's not really extra complexity, it's different complexity, with different tradeoffs, and I think the tradeoffs are worth it.

     I should probably do a writeup explaining in more detail. I'm still in the middle of unpacking boxes so I don't think I'll be sufficiently coherent to explain.

   @notclacke @strypey @schmittlauch @deadsuperhero @trwnh SSB does use petnames, but not completely correctly (they don't clearly distinguish how a name appears on your screen esp w/r/t distinguishing petnames vs edge names iirc)

   @strypey @trwnh @deadsuperhero @notclacke @schmittlauch It's possible to do an avatar version of petnames. In fact I think it may be required to keep users safe. I have thoughts on how to do this.

      @lnxw48a1 @johnnynull @strypey @notclacke Petnames can be used with DIDs btw but the concept predates DIDs and can be used in conjunction with any naming system.
